SMAC Weekly Update- Week of January 14, 2013

Good morning to all SMAC families & student-athletes!

Hopefully everybody survived the Storm That Wasn’t- #6. It sure is aggravating that we missed out on a day of training for a little rain. I’ll think twice before cancelling workout again.

Schedule changes to keep in mind over the coming week:

·         Regular schedule for Friday, January 18; any Gold student-athlete is welcome to come swim their workout at 4:00 p.m. (this is for Gold only); anybody swimming in the RAC meet this weekend will only swim for an hour. Everybody else will swim for the usual 90 minutes.

·         The RAC meet up at UMBC is this Sat/Sun/Mon. PLEASE NOTE: warmup for the PM session on Sat/Sun/Mon is at 11:30-11:55 a.m. for SMAC 10&Under’s and 11-12’s; AM warmup on Sun/Mon is 7:25-7:50 a.m. for SMAC 13&Over’s (Bekah Johnson only); anybody qualifying for Finals will have warmup at 5:00 p.m., Finals begins at 5:45 p.m.

·         NO WORKOUT FOR ANY GROUP on Sunday, January 20 (I’ll post a workout for Gold so you can come swim on your own. I will be at the RAC meet);

·         NO WORKOUT FOR ANY GROUP on Monday, January 21 (I’ll post a workout for Gold so you can come swim on your own. I will be at the RAC meet);

·         HOLIDAY WORKOUT SCHEDULE ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 22: Sr. II, 8-9:30 a.m.; Silver 9:30-11 a.m. (makeup workout for missing Mon 1/21); Gold 11-12:30 p.m., then lunch at Dream Weaver;

·         Regular workout schedule for next Tues/Wed/Thu; look for an email with the Friday, Jan 25 workout schedule next week;

·         CBAC meet is next Fri/Sat/Sun (Jan 25-27) at St. Mary’s; NO WORKOUT FOR ANYBODY on Sunday, January 27 or Monday, January 28. Regular schedule resumes on Tuesday, January 29.

MEET UPDATES:

·         All meet entries for the RAC, CBAC and OCCS (President’s Day Meet in VA, Feb 9-10) have been completed, submitted and accepted.

·         All entry fees for the RAC Meet and CBAC Meet should be paid in full by now. If you haven’t already done so, please stop at the Front Desk and let them know how you want to cover those fees. All fees have been emailed to everybody participating, and are also posted on the bulletin board.

·         Entry fees for the President’s Day Meet in VA will be posted once the RAC Meet and CBAC Meet are “closed out” (meaning, all fees for the January meets have been collected);

·         Upcoming meets: MD State Champs (SCY), March 7-10 @ USNA; Jr. Champs (SCY), March 15-17 @ St. Mary’s; MD 10&Under Champs (SCY), March 23-24 @ UMBC (we’ll be going just one day, stay tuned for meet information.

Happy New Year to all SMAC student-athletes and their families! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and are now excited for 2013 with SMAC!

Regular schedule this week for all groups (Jan 6-12), with just a few things to keep in mind:

• ·         The Winter Session of the Bronze Group starts this week (Tue/Thu); they get the three lanes closest to the bulkhead from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tue/Thu.

• ·         If anybody from the GOLD GROUP wants to come to early workout on Friday, January 11 (4-5:30 p.m.), please let me know. It would be fine to have some Gold Group members swimming at that earlier time. This earlier time is just for members of the Gold Group.

• ·         I’ll be at the pool on Sunday, January 13 from 3-4 p.m. if anybody from the SILVER GROUP wants to come get some extra work in on turns, breakouts, etc…

• ·         Keep in mind, ALL GROUPS ARE OFF ON MONDAY, JANUARY 28; NO WORKOUT THAT DAY FOR ANY GROUP.

• ·         Look for the FEBRUARY 9-10 MEET ANNOUNCEMENT later today (it’s called the “President’s Day Meet,” even though it’s held on the 9 & 10). There are NO TIME STANDARDS for that meet, and Saturday is prelims/finals, so it’s a great opportunity for everybody to race in a good meet. The deadline for hotel rooms is today, January 9. Rooms are reserved at the Hampton Inn/Warrenton (540-349-4200; ask for a room from the “SMAC” block). All rooms are non-smoking doubles for $116 a night, which includes the hot breakfast on Sunday Morning.

The entries for the Retriever Meet up at UMBC on Jan 19-21 (Sat-Mon) have been submitted & accepted. A hardcopy of events & fees has been handed out to everybody entered in the meet. Please stop by the Front Desk as soon as you can & let them know how you want to cover those fees.

The entries for the CBAC Meet at St. Mary’s College on Jan 25-27 have been submitted & accepted. I started handing out hardcopies of events & fees last night at workout. If you responded YES to the CBAC meet announcement, pleased be sure to ask your child for that handout. Also, stop by the Front Desk at your earliest convenience and let them know how you want to cover those fees. Everybody’s fees are listed below:

Happy New Year to all SMAC student-athletes and their families! We're looking forward to 2013 and very glad you've chosen to be a part of SMAC.

Our regular schedule resumes today (January 2), and the Winter Session of both Bronze Groups (either 5:30 or 6:30 p.m.) begins next Tuesday, January 8.
