Weekly Update for May 14, 2012
ABBY SEEGER INVITE- Meet wrap up:
Congratulations to everybody who swam at the Abby Seeger Invite, hosted by Retriever up at UMBC this past weekend! Everybody swam very well, and SMAC now boasts seven MD State Championship qualifiers:
Bekah Johnson, Margaret Foulkes, Connor Currie, Conner Lowery, Ethan Williams, Joe Williams and Tommy Cranford
Congratulations to all of you! Last scy season we had three MD State Championship qualifiers, so we're continuing to improve; it would be great if everybody continues to work hard & stays focused on our goal of TEN qualifiers for the MD Stae Championship meet next year. Keep up the good work!
Schedule for the week:
There are several changes to the workout schedule for this coming weekend, May 19 & 20, as Wagner Aquatic Club (Staten Island, NY) will be joining our Plat/Gold swimmers for some great long course training:
Saturday, May 19- Plat/Gold workout from 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (LCM); then again 5-7 p.m. (scy).
Sunday, May 20- Plat/Gold workout from 8-10 a.m. (LCM).
THERE WILL BE NO PLAT/GOLD/SILVER WORKOUT ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 20.
Our regular workout schedule will resume with Plat/Gold drylands on Monday Morning at 5:30 a.m.
SNOW Swimming Invite, June 1-3, 2012
The entries for the SNOW Swimming Invite have been submitted and the entry fees for this meet have been emailed to each family (they're also posted on the bulletin board). Please speak with Rachel at the Front Desk and let her know how you want to cover those fees by Friday of this week, May 18. Thanks for your attention to this!
FINAL EXAMS:
Please encourage your children to spend at least ten minutes each night reviewing for their
final exams. June is just a couple of weeks away, and nobody should be in a position where they have to cram to prepare for their exams. Remember, the STUDENT comes first in student-athlete.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Last workouts for the Bronze Group will be either Wednesday, May 23 or Thursday, May 24.
Bronze Mini-Meet (for both groups) will be on Wednesday, May 30 at 6:00 p.m.
NO WORKOUT FOR ALL GROUPS ON MONDAY, JUNE 4, 2012 (day after the SNOW meet)
Quote of the week:
It's not about how hard you can hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and then keep on hitting.
Thanks very much for being a part of SMAC, I'm looking forward to a great week! Email me with any questions at erikcollins19@gmail.com

Sat & Sun p.m. session (12 & Under): 11:45-12:35 p.m., meet starts at 12:45 p.m. The indoor pool will open first for warmups, followed by the outdoor pool at the conclusion of the 13 & Over session. Assigned warmups for the 12 & Under session will be sent out prior to the start of the meet (I do not have them yet).
I have a sun-shelter for the meet, so everybody can stay out of the sun. It was donated last year by the Cranford's- thanks very much for helping us out!
REMINDER: email me by 10 p.m. on Friday, May 11 if you want your child to swim in the SNOW meet, June 1-3 in Sterling, VA. All the meet info is on the board.
Final exams are less than a month away- please encourage your children to take ten minutes each night to start reviewing for these exams. Finals have a way of creeping up on everybody, and cramming is no way to prepare. If your child needs to get out of a workout early, or skip one altogether, please let me know and we'll make it work.
Quote of the week: "Don't do the exceptional things basically well, do the basic things EXCEPTIONALLY well. Master the basics, and you have a foundation for excellence."
Good luck to everybody swimming this weekend at the Retriever meet. I'm looking forward to the meet!

WEEKLY
UPDATE for April 30, 2012
Schedule change: NO AFTERNOON WORKOUT ON FRIDAY, MAY 4 for PLATINUM, GOLD OR SILVER. Plat/Gold will have workout on Friday Morning, May 4, from 5:30-7:10 a.m.; no problem if anybody has to get out early to get to school. Regular Sunday workout for Plat/Gold (4-6 p.m.). The Silver Group will have workout on Sunday, May 6 from 4:30-6 p.m. (swim) and then drylands from 6-6:45 p.m. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause, but I have to be out of town this weekend.
SILVER DRYLANDS- have been awesome! I've enjoyed everybody's good effort as we add this component to our training. Do your best to be consistent, focus on doing the exercises correctly, and then work to improve from week to week. REMEMBER: stronger OUT of the water, means stronger IN the water.
Meet update: the entries for the Abby Seeger Invitational (May 11-13, hosted by Retriever up at UMBC) have been accepted. I've emailed the entry fees to everybody, posted the entries on the bulletin board and handed out a hard copy to everybody who is entered in the meet. Parents, please be sure to speak with Rachel at the Front Desk and let her know how you want to pay for those fees. Anybody who races both days of that meet will be off on Monday, May 14- no exceptions. NEXT MEET: the SNOW Invitational, June 1-3 in Sterling, VA. I'm getting excited for this meet! The meet info is on the board, I'll email the "meet announcement" to everybody next week.
LOOKING AHEAD: Long course training for the Plat/Gold groups on May 19-20; NO AFTERNOON WORKOUT that Sunday, May 20 for Plat/Gold or Silver. Also, regular Sunday workout schedule for Sunday, May 27; on Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day), the Plat/Gold groups will swim from 8-10 a.m. and the Silver Group will swim from 10-11:30 a.m.
FINAL EXAMS: hard to believe it's already May! The end of the school year is fast approaching; all SMAC student-athletes should be setting aside some time each night to start reviewing their notes in preparation for their final exams. If anything is particularly difficult, go see the teacher and get some extra tips on how best to prepare for the end of the year project or final exam. Spend 10 or 15 minutes reviewing each night in May to avoid cramming in June!
